師情草意：What a Poppy family！（續）

一講起Poppy，大家總會想起鴉片罌粟（Papaver somniferum），而佢亦正如故事入面所形容，帶有催眠嘅法力，係一種不可多得嘅麻醉劑1，2，3（詳情可參照上期「師情草意」）。除咗得到醫學界嘅重視，佢亦係園藝界嘅「大紅人」。鴉片罌粟整棵帶有灰綠色，不論莖部同葉部睇落就好似被一層白霜覆蓋住，襯托住白色或紫紅色嘅花朵，非常美麗，因此成為裝飾花嘅一種。

咦！？咁說好的猩紅色Poppy呢？

其實，講到最能代表猩紅色Poppy，非被稱為「虞美人」嘅粟米罌粟（Papaver rhoeas）莫屬，而且佢更有Red Poppy之名。雖然佢同鴉片罌粟一樣，能夠幫助入睡1，4，但性質就相對溫和得多。至於食用方面，粟米罌粟嘅用法就較為廣泛，好多時會用佢嚟做蛋糕，或者用佢嘅葉作為蔬菜食用，又或者將佢嘅花瓣做成糖漿，加入湯及粥等，甚至用佢嘅油去取代橄欖油。

除咗呢兩個罌粟屬（Papaver）嘅品種外，仲有約7百多個品種（約40多個花屬）屬於呢個Poppy Family，所以罌粟科（Papaveraceae）可算係一個大家庭。屬於薊罌粟屬（Argemone）嘅Mexican Poppy（Argemone mexicana），生長喺美國南部及南美洲一帶，同鴉片罌粟一樣帶有止痛功效4。仲有我哋為大家介紹過嘅「眠」花——花菱草（Eschscholzia californica），同樣能夠幫助入睡（可參照2014年7月24日期「師情草意」）。此外，帶有毛茸茸熊掌形葉嘅Bear Poppy（Arctomecon spp.）亦係其中一種裝飾用嘅罌粟。

咁「誘人」嘅植物，唔怪得Dorothy都差啲走唔甩。
